The Spartacus Workout

I recently made a purchase from Women's Health which I love and I am so excited to share it with you. It was originally promoted by Men's Health Magazine, and then Women's Health. It's The Spartacus workout

I recently Purchased The Spartacus Workout 2 DVD Set, and The Spartacus Workout 20-minute Body Fat Torchers. I absolutely love them. I felt wonderful today after I did The Gladiator Gauntlet. I look forward to alternating between the 20 min circuits and the main workout. I felt fatigued but confident in my workout. The host is motivating, and there are several people doing the workouts with you, who are performing different move alternatives and at personal speeds. So no matter what level you follow at, there is someone to go along with.

I loved it. I felt wonderful during, and after. It challenged me and my body was shaking, but it moves at a wonderful pace. It keeps you moving. It's a little different from other workouts that I have done, as, in each circuit, you increase your effort. It's very accumulative. the first round is a very basic warm up round, and the last round is in full swing. I was discouraged at first when I skipped through to see what to expect and I saw more rest times than I am used to, but MY GOSH you will need them. You will sweat.

The DVDs are compiled of a few different workouts, all High-Intensity Interval training, and circuit training. Some require equipment but show you alternatives for body weight, or kettle-ball vs dumbbells. There really is no excuse, when some of the circuits are 15-20 minutes long, and you don't have to go out and purchase equipment.

I like how they make you feel confident no matter your level, pushing proper form and alignment over quantity and speed. They encourage you to be aware and resituate yourself if needed. I am used to other DVDs that push you to go as fast as you can and push out as many as you can, and almost guilt you into pushing yourself. This DVD MOTIVATES you to keep pushing yourself.

I hope this helps, any questions please feel free to ask.

I was not paid to review this product, this is something I found and bought on me own. I have purchased many things from Women's Health and Rodale, and I have not been disappointed yet.

Yours Truly,
Jessi Harm

  1. HI,
I've been looking at those DVD's and had a question for you, are their big differences between the two? Just thinking I'd like to only get one (either 2 dvd set or body fat torcher) and not sure which. If you watch the preview on the website, they show the exact same clip.
    thanks

    1. I have all three. The 20 min fat torcher, the body weight, and the main 2 disc dvd set. I actually LOVE the 20 min fat torcher dvd. In all the dvds you don't really need more than dumbbells, and you can use body-weight alternatives anyway. So it comes down to personal preference, I think all of them are great and leave me exhausted. The 2 disc main work outs are 30 minutes long. I use my 20 minutes fat torcher dvd the most though.

      Hope that helps.
Let me know if you need anything else

  3. I am going to buy these DVDs because I want to shed my body fat as early as possible. I have tried many things but there was no change in my body but I hope that I’ll find good results in little time.

  4. I highly recommend the Spartacus workout. I am at week 3 of 4 and I feel fantastic. I am sure, although I haven't measured, that I've toned at least one inch from my back, inner thighs, and all ab areas. Really tough at first...you will beg for mercy. But it feels gratifying to see such dramatic results in only nine workouts of 41 minutes! I want to keep it going by trying the 20 min workouts and see what happens next! PS...you don't have to buy the DVDs! Look online and you will find them.

    1. I can't condone pirating, haha, but I am sure there are places to purchase cheaper than what I have linked. Look around and find the best deals for sure, but yes I do love them, I don't have a 41 min workout that you are talking about, I am wondering if what I purchased from womenshealthmag.com may be different from the menshealthmag.com promotion.

  5. Is there some dort of schedule or rotation calendar? Any help is appreciated.

    1. I don't have a schedule, but I got all three available dvds from a womenshealthmag.com offer. I cycle threw the 6 different workouts on the 3 dvds. The main dvd is 2 disc, that houses 2 workouts that are 30min long, the Fat Torchers dvd has three 20min workouts that target different things but work the all over body. The body weight revolution dvd is 1 workout, all body weight, that is 20-30 long.

I would suggest the 20 min fat torchers and main dvds. Body weight is great but only if you can afford it, otherwise you can use the other dvds are use the body weight move substitutions if needed.

But no there is no cycle, I just rotate and make my own circuit.

  6. Hi, I bought these a few months back and was using them regularly until 2 weeks ago when I jumped off the wagon. I lost two inches but didn't see any muscle definition or weight loss. Have you seen any physical change in your body from these or have you by chance taken before and after pictures? I love the workouts but feel like I'm missing something and that's discouraging. :-\ Thanks! Oh by the way, my diet is totally clean-so I know it's not that.

    1. Well the first thing I would say is the scale is not your friend. I was almost 200 pounds, so when I needed to lose body mass so I could do other exercises more safely I did mostly cardio to shrink fat, and would use the scale and measure inches for reference. The smaller you get though the scale becomes very misleading. As you build muscle and lose fat your weight may not change at all, in fact you could gain weight. You may be smaller, but muscle takes up less room.

So if you are losing inches than you are making progress and I would focus on that. I have a blog entry coming soon about using the scale, and some pictures I have found that put in in perspective. I would get back on the band wagon because it doesn't sound like you are to far from that muscle definition. If you are concerned about it and want to do a little more, add a strength training segment to your routine. Higher weights, lower reps are great for muscle building, lower weights, higher reps are great for toning, and fat shredding.

      Hope this helped.

    1. Hi Brittany, thanks for reading.

The 20 minute fat torchers are just great! You will love that DVD.
I have only seen the use of Kettle Balls and or Dumbbells. Both are optional. They don't have kettle ball or dumbbell equipment specific workouts, but the people in the background, one might use a kettle ball, and they tell you how you can do the move with that, or one will use dumbbells.

But yea, for this dvd you only need dumbbells, or a kettle ball if you prefer. As for weight, that is up to you. I primarily use a 5 pounds, but keep 10 pounds near by if I am feeling really good.

      Hope that helped.

  8. Hi,

I'm currently doing the triple set scorcher every other day and doing either the ab attack or total body blitz in between. Is it safe to do body fat torchers together with the triple set scorcher or would that be too much?

    Thanks!

    1. I think that really depends on you. I have no idea honestly, but I do know of people who workout two times a day, others that work out 2 hours a day. If your body can handle it, and your at a fitness level where you can do it safely, that I don't see why not. I would just listen to your body, make sure you are drinking enough liquid, and getting adequate nutrition to support your high activity level.

      I hope this helps.

    1. I am not sure about the shipping issues, I use Rodale Store for a lot of my lifestyle and health purchases, but I am sure there is other sites that have it available.

  12. Hi Jessi
Right now women's health has a sale on all 5 dvds for $40. It seems like a great deal, but I just had my 3rd child and am not in great shape. Do you think this is something I could start now or would I need to get in better shape first?

    ReplyDelete
  13. I would suggest you get them at that deal. Worst case scenario, you try and its to much, you got a great program to resume later.

However, during the workouts they host really does stress going at your pace, encouraging to use alternate moves if needed, which he shows you, or equipment alternatives as well. There are options when doing this workout. My favorite dvd is the 20min workouts. Quick and effective. The great thing about getting a dvd is you can kind of tailor it to your own pace.

I purchased my 2 dvds at much more than that, so I would jump on it.

I would also like to say this is the first DVD host who is really encouraging to me...and not cheesy. :)
